Activities and the area

Belle Vallee is situated five minutes away from the medieval town of Domfront with its historic castle, shops, restaurants and street cafes. The castle was fought over for many years by the French and English and now provides a dramatic vantage point over the surrounding countryside.

There is so much to do in this region of Normandy. The magical Mont St Michel is the second most visited attraction in France. The landing beaches of World War 2. Just inland from the beaches is Bayeux with its famous tapestry and the Notre Dame Cathedral. The elegant seaside towns of Deauville, Trouville and Granville provide the perfect day out at the seaside. Nearer to Domfront is the spa town of Bagnoles-de l'orne renowned for its legendary healing powers, a good day out with its lake, shops, spa stations and casino. For the real flavour visit one of the cider presses and sample the local tipple.

During the summer months there are plenty of local fairs and markets that are well worth a visit. The market at St Hilaire du Harcouet is huge and is held every Wednesday morning. An ideal place to do your shopping and sample an authentic piece of France. In August 2007 the bi-annual medieval fair is being held in Domfront, a great day out with jousting exhibitions and lots for the kids to do. On August 15th every year the floral village of St. Fraimbault holds its fair; a wonderful day out for all the family.

For the more energetic you can play golf at the course at Bagnoles-de l'orne, horse riding in the regional park (Belle Vallee has two horse boxes available for rent) or if you're not faint hearted you could always try bungee jumping at Clecy. The region of Orne features over 4,000 kilometres of walking paths and has many allocated cycle paths. Hot air ballooning, mountaineering, fishing, swimming, sailing and water sports are just some of the activities you can take part in during your stay.
